Air Pacific: The Ultra-Exclusive Laucala Island
Volume 3 2009
"Hotteliers of the world: The bar has been raised," wrote robb report's Jennifer Hall in the dispatch from the ultra-exclusive Luacala Island in northern Fiji in May. As an associate editor with the world’s definitive authority on connoisseurship for ultra-affluent consumers, Hall is well placed to make such a call.
“Within the past 18 months, I’ve been to Courchevel, France; Verbier, Switzerland; St. Bart's, the" Bahamas (twice); Palm Beach, Florida; and Chile's Atacama Desert, to name a few,"she continued. “I was speechless on my tour today."
Laucala's scale certainly leaves visitors at a loss for words. Open since December 2008, the 25 villa resort is set on a nearly 3000-acre private island, a former coconut plantation owned by the late American media mogul Malcom Forbes, who entertained Elizabeth Taylor among other jetset here in his heyday...

Fiji’s Leading Construction Company Changes Name
27th July 2009
Pacific Building Systems, Fiji’s leading construction company, is changing its name. The initiative reflects the company’s growth and the expansion of its product and service offerings.
The company’s new name is "Pacific Building Solutions." After becoming the leading builder of resorts in Fiji over the last decade, the reason for the change became evident -new technology, services and new markets -all reasons that contributed to the need to select a name that speaks to the benefit of the company’s core offering.
"Ask any Managing Director of a fast-growing company if they'd change the name of their business in the middle of an impressive growth period and you'd probably get a jovial 'fat chance'," PBS managing director Michael Fairfax said. "But when you think about the idea more closely, changing our name to include the word “solutions” makes perfect sense. The new name, Pacific Building Solutions, gives us room to introduce a more comprehensive set of products and services and tackle a greater variety of building projects that will better enable us to support our clients with their construction needs..."(read more) |

Mai Life - Laucala Revealed
July 2009
The moment we learnt that we were invited to Laucala, we knew that it would be this month's cover.
After all, almost everyone has heard of Laucala Island, but very few have actually been there or have had the pleasure of seeing it. It is also highly likely that very few people in Fiji would be able to afford the rate of one night on the island. Rates stand at between US$3,800 to US$35,OOO per night.
Speculation has been rife about Laucala island ever since construction workers, usually ignored, suddenly gained peoples attention five years ago with stories of how they were building Fiji's first and only 7-Star resort...
